Supporting volunteers to serve their community safely

Townhead Village Hall has been keen to provide a hygiene course for its new volunteers and staff who help run the café kitchen within the community. Having access to this course is important as it helps ensure that everyone involved understands the key principles of food safety and good hygiene practices. The training covers areas such as safe food preparation and handling, appropriate storage and disposal of food and drinks and maintaining high standards of cleanliness when serving members of the community.

The course package purchased allows up to 20 staff members or volunteers to complete the training and, importantly, there is no set deadline for completion. This gives the team the flexibility to complete the course at a time that suits them, which is particularly helpful for part-time staff and volunteers who may have childcare or other commitments. As the course can also be accessed easily through a mobile phone, volunteers can complete the training from home or wherever is most convenient for them. Once completed, each participant gets a certificate that recognises their training and knowledge in food hygiene.

How the Fusion Fund Supported Townhead Village Hall

The Fusion Fund has played an important role in supporting Townhead Village Hall to purchase access to the online hygiene training course. The funding has helped make this valuable training available to the staff and volunteers who are involved in running the café kitchen, ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence needed to follow good food safety and hygiene practices. By supporting the purchase of the course, the Fusion Fund has contributed to creating a safer and more welcoming environment for both the volunteers who run the café and the members of the community who use its services.
